MAYBELLINE MASTER GRAPHIC EYELINER REVIEW

Maybelline Master Graphic Eyeliner Review
I'm not a massive fan of eyeliners. I personally don't think that the shape of my eyes suit winged liner as much as others. Don't get me wrong, I love a winged eyeliner look, it's just not a look I do often on myself. I much prefer a simplistic peachy gold eye with big, bold lashes. I still find myself wearing liner for certain occasions, though. The last time I wore it was back in January. I would never have the effort to do winged eyeliner every day!

I bought this Maybelline eyeliner pen to keep as my 'occasional eyeliner' for when I fancied going 'all out'. I must say, this is a good eyeliner pen. It's so easy to use! It's also super affordable, being drugstore. However, there's a few negatives about this product. I guess it's time to share all of these things with you, in detail!

What do Maybelline claim?
Maybelline say that this liquid felt tip eyeliner 'draws a thin or extra thick black line with a sharp edge'.

First Impressions
My first thoughts of this product were something along the lines of 'how am I going to draw a thin line with this? I don't want to look like a panda'. I honestly wasn't sure what to expect as I had never seen a liner pen with such a large and thick nib. After trying it out, I realised that it was actually quite easy to use. You can move the nib around and angle it differently to get different thicknesses and therefore different effects. I really liked how easy it was to use and manipulate to get different looks. However, I quite quickly found that this liner wasn't at all waterproof after my watery eyes had it dripping down my face from the sides of my eyes. That definitely wasn't a positive!

Pigmentation/Boldness
One of my favourite things about this eyeliner is that it actually works just as well over eyeshadow as it does on bare skin. Many eyeliner pens can become clogged up and therefore fade or don't work when applied to eyeshadow bases. This definitely impressed me; there's a tiny amount of fade, but it can be built upon to get the full matte black look. The formula is also extra bold which is amazing! I really hate eyeliners that claim to be 'jet-black' or 'bold' when they are more like a dark grey or faded black.

Ease of application
I haven't tried a massive range of eyeliners - especially not eyeliner pens - but, compared to the ones I have used, the Maybelline Master Graphic eyeliner pen is really easy to apply. The felt tip is really useful. You can use it for relatively thin lines or really bold, statement lines. The only thing I would say is that it's not the best liner for thin pin-like lines. The nib just doesn't allow for really thin lines.

The formula itself comes out really easily and it doesn't take a lot of 'going over' to get the desired jet-black coverage. Sometimes too much product comes out and it leaves a bit of a mess, but it's not often that this happens. Overall, I would say the pen is quite a convenient and useful applicator that makes winged liner easy.

Staying Power
If you're looking for a waterproof eyeliner, do not buy this one. The tiniest bit of moisture on the skin's surface can cause this eyeliner to smudge or run. I would also say, if you have oily skin, this would be a product to avoid. It's really not ideal unless it's slightly colder and you're not going to be experiencing rain or tears.

Overall Thoughts
Overall, I would say that this liner is a good backup product to keep in case you run out of your other eyeliners, but it's not one I would recommend for every day use. It just isn't at all waterproof and would not last the whole day unless you had really dry skin. It can easily last a few hours, but anything beyond that is pushing it. The applicator is really easy to use and the colour of the formula is brilliant, but they sadly don't make me love it enough to deal with smudging.

Rating
I would give this product a 2/5 because although the formula is bold and the applicator is really easy to use - the fact that it doesn't last on my skin just ruins it for me. If I wear eyeliner, I don't want to have to keep checking whether it's smudged or not. I want to be able to have faith in the fact that it won't budge and be worry-free about an eyeliner disaster occurring while I am out.

Would I repurchase?
No, I wouldn't. It's a handy product to have in my makeup drawer, but it's just really not practical.

  1. Fab post lovely, I had actually been eyeing up this product a while back so I’m glad I didn’t pick it up as I agree I hate having to check to see if eyeliner has smudged it becomes so annoying.

    1. Thank you, Charlee! Ah, this review must have been helpful then? If you're still thinking of trying it, why not? It may just be my opinion and you may like it. But yes, I do find it smudges quite a lot, so maybe not what you are looking for x

  2. The applicator of this looks really similar to the Benefit they're real although I'm prone to oily skin so if it's not waterproof at all then this definitely isn't a product for me.

  3. Oh! When I saw the photo I thought it would do as a great dope for Benefit's Push'em up eyeliner - which I haven't been able to figure out how to use - but if it's not too great, I guess I won't be buying it to try it out!
